1 The Principal Act.

1.—In this Act, the expression “the Principal Act” means the Defence Forces (Pensions) Act, 1932 (No. 26 of 1932).

2 Amendment of section 1 of Principal Act.

2.—The definition, in section 1 of the Principal Act, of the expression “the National Army” is hereby amended by the insertion, after the words “Army Nursing Service”, of the words “or the Chaplaincy Service”.

3 Amendment of section 2 of Principal Act.

3.—Section 2 of the Principal Act is hereby amended—

(a) by the insertion in subsection (1), after paragraph (b), of the following paragraph:

“(bb) pensions and gratuities for members of the Chaplaincy Service to whom such scheme applies, and”,

(b) by the addition at the end of subsection (2) of the follow-words:

“and members of the Chaplaincy Service,”

(c) by the addition at the end of subsection (3) of the following words:

“or, in the case of a member of the Chaplaincy Service, to his service as such member or as a chaplain with the National Army.”

4 Short title, construction and collective citation.

4.—(1) This Act may be cited as the Defence Forces (Pensions) (Amendment) Act, 1949.

(2) The Defence Forces (Pensions) Acts, 1932 and 1938, and this Act may be cited together as the Defence Forces (Pensions) Acts, 1932 to 1949, and shall be construed as one.
