Rates on Agricultural Land (Relief) Act , 1972

1 Interpretation.

1.—In this Act “the Act of 1946” means the Rates on Agricultural Land (Relief) Act, 1946.

2 Amendment of section 1 of Rates on Agricultural Land (Relief) Act, 1962.

2.—(1) Section 1 (1) of the Rates on Agricultural Land (Relief) Act, 1962, as amended by section 2 of the Rates on Agricultural Land (Relief) Act, 1964, and section 2 of the Rates on Agricultural Land (Relief) Act, 1967, is hereby amended by the substitution of “the 31st day of March, 1970, the 31st day of March, 1971, the 31st day of March, 1972, the 31st day of March, 1973, the 31st day of March, 1974 and the 31st day of March, 1975,” for “and the 31st day of March, 1970.”.

(2) Accordingly “twenty-one” is hereby substituted for “sixteen” where the latter word occurs in section 1 of the Rates on Agricultural Land (Relief) Act, 1953, in the reference to the local financial year ending on the 31st day of March, 1954, and the sixteen following local financial years.

3 Amendment of section 8 of Rates on Agricultural Land (Relief) Act, 1939.

3.—(1) Section 8 (1) of the Rates on Agricultural Land (Relief) Act, 1939, as applied by section 7 (2) of the Act of 1946, shall be construed and have effect as if “greater than fifteen pounds” were substituted for “equal to or greater than five pounds”.

(2) Subsection (1) of this section shall be deemed to have had effect in relation to the local financial years which ended on the 31st day of March, 1969 and the 31st day of March, 1970, and shall have effect in relation to any subsequent local financial year to which the Act of 1946 applies.

4 Amendment of section 8 of Rates on Agricultural Land (Relief) Act, 1967.

4.—The words “for the expenses of the council incurred in the payment of compensation for criminal injuries” in section 8 (1) (a) of the Rates on Agricultural Land (Relief) Act, 1967, are hereby repealed.

5 Saver.

5.—Everything done by the council of a county before and in anticipation of the enactment of this Act shall have and shall be deemed always to have had all such validity and effect as it would have had if this Act had been in force when such thing was done.

6 Short title, collective citation and construction.

6.—(1) This Act may be cited as the Rates on Agricultural Land (Relief) Act, 1972.

(2) The Rates on Agricultural Land (Relief) Acts, 1939 to 1967, and this Act may be cited together as the Rates on Agricultural Land (Relief) Acts, 1939 to 1972.

(3) The Rates on Agricultural Land (Relief) Acts, 1939 to 1967, and this Act shall be construed together as one Act.
