IMPOSITION OF DUTIES (No. 201) (CUSTOMS DUTIES AND FORM OF CUSTOMS TARIFF) ORDER, 1973.

The Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 1 of the Imposition of Duties Act, 1957 (No. 7 of 1957), and section 22 of the Finance Act, 1962 (No. 15 of 1962), hereby order as follows:

1.

This Order may be cited as the Imposition of Duties (No. 201) (Customs Duties and Form of Customs Tariff) Order, 1973.

2.

This Order shall come into operation two days after the making thereof.

3.

In this Order "the Principal Order" means the Imposition of Duties (No. 200) (Customs and Excise Duties and Form of Tariff) Order, 1972 ( S.I. No. 220 of 1972 ).

4.

The Principal Order is hereby amended by—

(i) the substitution for the matter contained in the Schedule at tariff code number 4801-314 of the following :—


"Other printing and writing paper:
Exceeding 9 lbs. in weight per ream	4801-302	kg	(a)	36% plus 4%	36% plus 4%	22·7% plus 4%	6·8% plus 1·2%	4·5% plus 0·8%
Other	4801-308	kg	(a)	4%	4%	4%	1·2%	0·8 %"

(ii) the substitution for the matter contained in the Schedule at tariff code number 4805-551 of the following :


"Creped household and toilet paper:
Not exceeding 9 lbs. in weight per ream	4805-547	kg	(a)	4%	4%	4%	1·2%	0·8%
Other	4805-555	kg	(a)	36% plus 4%	36% plus 4%	22·7% plus 4%	6·8% plus 1·2%	4·5% plus 0·8%",

(iii) the substitution for the matter contained in the Schedule at tariff code number 4807-046 of the following:


"Paper waterproofed by means of tar or pitch	4807-044	kg	(a)	4%	4%	4%	1·2%	0·8%
Other paper	4807-048	kg	(a)	36% plus 4%	36% plus 4%	22.7% plus 4%	6·8% plus 1·2%	4·5% plus 0·8%",

(iv) the substitution in the first column of the Schedule at tariff subheading 58.05 A II for "Venetian blind tape" of "Venetian blind tape,"

(v) the insertion in the first column of the Schedule at tariff code number 5805-366 of "not" after "linen",

(vi) the substitution in the first column of the Schedule at tariff heading number 58.07 for "ornamented" of "ornamental",

(vii) the substitution of "and exceeding" for "not exceeding" in the first column of the Schedule at tariff code number 5909-588,

(viii) the substitution for the matter contained in the Schedule at tariff code numbers 6812-017 and 6812-025 of the following:


"Corrugated sheets :
Of asbestos cement	6812-015	kg	(a)	24%	16%	16%	4·8%	3·2%
Other	6812-023	kg	—	Free	Free	Free	Free	Free

Other sheets :

(ix) the insertion in the first column of the Schedule at tariff heading number 83.02 after "Hinges of all types" of the following:

"Suitable for motor vehicles",

(x) the insertion in the second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eight and ninth columns, respectively, of the Schedule at tariff heading number 83.02 opposite "Suitable for motor vehicles" (inserted by this Order) of the following:


"	8302-120	kg	(d)	37·5 %	37·5%	37·5%	37·5%	37·5% ",

(xi) the substitution in the first column of the Schedule at tariff subheading 84.06 C I (a) of "250 cc or less" for "250 cc",

(xii) the substitution in the second column of the Schedule at tariff subheading 84.10 B III of "8410-233" for "8410-223",

(xiii) the substitution for the matter contained in the columns headed "Tariff Code No." and "Rate of Duty" in the Annex to the Schedule at tariff code number 4801-314, of the following:


"4801-302	24% plus 2·6%
4801-308	2·6%",

(xiv) the substitution for the matter contained in the columns headed "Tariff Code No." and "Rate of Duty" in the Annex to the Schedule at tariff code number 4805-551, of the following:


"4805-547	2·6%
4805-555	24% plus 2·6%",

(xv) the substitution for the matter contained in the columns headed "Tariff Code No." and "Rate of Duty" in the Annex to the Schedule at tariff code number 4807-046, of the following:


"4807-044	2·6%
4807-048	24% plus 2·6%",and

(xvi) the insertion after the matter contained in the columns headed "Tariff Code No" and "Rate of Duty" in the Annex to the Schedule at tariff code number 6811-372 of the following:


"6812-015	16%
6812-027	16%".

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The effect of the Order is to restore the correct duty position of a number of items, viz., certain kinds of paper, building materials of asbestos cement, and hinges suitable for motor vehicles, on which the incidence of duty was inadvertently altered in the course of the transposition of our Customs Tariff nomenclature to that of the EEC Common Customs Tariff. A number of minor editorial changes are also made in the form of Customs Tariff.

The Order comes into operation on 11 January, 1973.
