1 Definitions.

1.—In this Act—

“bridge order” has the meaning assigned to it by Part IV of the Local Government Act 1946;

“Minister” means the Minister for the Environment and Local Government;

“Part IV” means Part IV of the Local Government Act 1946 as amended;

“Principal Act” means the Local Government Act 2001.

2 Application of certain provisions.

2.—(1) Notwithstanding the repeal of Part IV by the Principal Act, Part IV continues to apply and shall be deemed always to have applied in relation to an application for a bridge order that was made to the Minister before 31 December 2001 and the bridge order made after that date by the Minister pursuant to such an application.

(2) Subsection (1) of this section is without prejudice to section 6 of the Principal Act and the Interpretation Acts 1937 to 1997.

(3) Section 15A (inserted by the Principal Act) of the Roads Act 1993 shall not apply to the construction of a bridge pursuant to a bridge order referred to in subsection (1) of this section.

3 Short title, collective citation and construction.

3.—(1) This Act may be cited as the Local Government Act 2003.

(2) This Act and the Local Government Acts 1925 to 2001 may be cited together as the Local Government Acts 1925 to 2003 and shall be read together as one.
