EXPLANATORY NOTE.

(This note is not part of the instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation.)

The Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) and Ministerial, Parliamentary, Judicial and Court Offices (Amendment) Act 1998 (Allowances and Allocations) Order 2003 ( S.I. No. 59 of 2003 ) made provision for the payment of allowances to the Chairpersons of those sub-Committees in existence at the time the Order was made. This Order takes account of developments in the interim by making provision for the payment of allowances to the Chairpersons of all sub-Committees now in existence.

Section 8 (5) of the Houses of the Oireachtas Commission Act 2003 provides for the payment of an allowance to each member of the Commission. The Order sets the allowance at a rate equivalent to that payable to Chairpersons of specified Oireachtas Committees.
