University College Galway (Amendment) Act 2006
1 Amendment of section 3 of University College Galway Act 1929.
1.— The University College Galway Act 1929 is amended by substituting the following for section 3:
“Provision of education at the College through the medium of the Irish language.
3.— (1) The governing authority of the College shall ensure that one of the principal aims for the operation and development of the College set out in each strategic development plan prepared after the commencement of this section is the provision of education at the College through the medium of the Irish language.
(2) The governing authority and the President of the College shall each perform their respective functions and exercise their respective powers in respect of the College to ensure that the aim referred to in subsection (1) is implemented.
(3) In this section—
‘governing authority’, in relation to the College, has the meaning assigned to it by section 3(1) of the Universities Act 1997;
‘strategic development plan’, in relation to the College, means the strategic development plan of the College referred to in section 34 of the Universities Act 1997.”.
2 Short title, collective citation and construction.
2.— (1) This Act may be cited as the University College Galway (Amendment) Act 2006.
(2) The University College Galway Act 1929 and this Act may be cited together as the University College Galway Acts 1929 and 2006 and shall be construed together as one Act.
