The Slaughter-houses (Licensing) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1996

The Department of Agriculture, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Sections 1(1), 5 and 11(1) of the Slaughter-houses Act (Northern Ireland) 1953[^f00001] hereby makes the following Regulations:—

Citation and commencement

These Regulations may be cited as the Slaughter-houses (Licensing) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1996 and shall come into operation on 3rd May 1996.

Amendment of the licensing Regulations

The Slaughter-houses (Licensing) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1955[^f00002] shall be amended as provided in regulations 3 and 4.

Animals which may be slaughtered in licensed meat plants

For regulation 8 there shall be substituted the following regulation—

(8) A person shall not use any slaughter-house or pig slaughter-house licensed under Section 1 of the Act, or cause any such premises to be used for the slaughter of an animal the meat derived from which is not intended for human consumption unless such slaughter takes place pursuant to, and in accordance with, a slaughter scheme introduced by or under Council Regulation (EEC) No. 805/68[^f00003].

• (1) For the fourth Schedule there shall be substituted the Schedule set out in Part 1 of the Schedule to these Regulations.

• (2) For the fifth Schedule there shall be substituted the Schedule set out in Part 2 of the Schedule to these Regulations.

Explanatory note

(This note is not part of the Regulations.)

These Regulations amend the Slaughter-houses (Licensing) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1955 to enable slaughter-houses to be used for the slaughter of animals which are not destined for human consumption, but which are slaughtered pursuant to a slaughter scheme introduced by or under Council Regulation (EEC) 805/68, as amended.

The Regulations also amend and update the records which the holder of a licence under Section 1 of the Slaughter-houses Act (Northern Ireland) 1955 must retain and furnish to the Department.
