Disability Discrimination (Guidance and Code of Practice) (Appointed Day) Order (Northern Ireland) 1996
Made: 28th November 1996
Now, therefore, the Department in exercise of the powers conferred on it by sections 3(9) and 54(6) of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 hereby makes the following Order:
Citation

This Order may be cited as the Disability Discrimination (Guidance and Code of Practice) (Appointed Day) Order (Northern Ireland) 1996.
Appointed Day for Guidance

The day appointed as the day on which the Guidance (on matters to be taken into account in determining questions relating to the definition of disability)[^f00002] issued pursuant to section 3 of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 shall come into force is 2nd December 1996.
Appointed Day for Code of Practice

The day appointed as the day on which the Code of Practice (for the elimination of discrimination in the field of employment against disabled persons or persons who have had a disability)[^f00003] issued pursuant to section 53 of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 shall come into force is 2nd December 1996.

Explanatory note
(This note is not part of the Order.)
The Disability Discrimination Act 1995 as modified by Schedule 8 thereof for application in Northern Ireland provides for the Department of Economic Development to issue Guidance on the matters to be taken into account in determining questions relating to the definition of disability. This Order appoints 2nd December 1996 as the day on which this Guidance is to come into force.
The same Act provides for the Department of Economic Development to issue a Code of Practice for the elimination of discrimination in the field of employment against disabled persons or persons who have had a disability. Under this Order the Code of Practice is to come into force on 2nd December 1996.
