The Lord Chancellor, in exercise of the powers conferred by Articles 5(3)(a) and 22(1) of the Legal Aid, Advice and Assistance (Northern Ireland) Order 1981[^f00001] and now vested in him[^f00002], hereby makes the following Regulations –

Citation and commencement

These Regulations may be cited as the Legal Advice and Assistance (Amendment No. 2) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2002 and shall come into operation on 21st June 2002.

Assistance by way of representation for certain cases under the Life Sentences (Northern Ireland) Order 2001

In regulation 17(3)(b) of the Legal Advice and Assistance Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1981[^f00003] –

(v) in respect of a hearing held under Article 10 or 11 of the Life Sentences (Northern Ireland) Order 2001[^f00004] by a solicitor acting on behalf of the person whose case is or is to be the subject of the hearing

Explanatory note

(This note is not part of the Regulations.)

These Regulations extend assistance by way of representation under Article 5 of the Legal Aid, Advice and Assistance (Northern Ireland) Order 1981 to prisoners at hearings held under Articles 10 and 11 of the Life Sentences (Northern Ireland) Order 2001.
