The Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety[^f00001] in exercise of the powers conferred on it by section 11(1) of the Carers and Direct Payments Act (Northern Ireland) 2002[^f00002], and of all other powers enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:

Explanatory note

(This note is not part of the Order.)

This Order provides for the coming into operation on 19th April 2004 of sections 8 and 9 and the Schedule to the Carers and Direct Payments Act (Northern Ireland) 2002. Sections 8 and 9 make provision for the making of direct payments by HSS Trusts in lieu of services whereas the Schedule repeals previous legislation on direct payments.

The Order also designates 16th March 2004 as the appointed day for the purposes of making regulations under sections 8 and 9 of the Act.
