Police (Recruitment) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2006

Coming into operation: 31st March 2006
The Secretary of State makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 25 and 26 of the Police (Northern Ireland) Act 1998[^f00001] and sections 41, 43 and 44 of the Police (Northern Ireland) Act 2000[^f00002]. In accordance with section 41(6) of the Police (Northern Ireland) Act 2000 he has consulted the Northern Ireland Policing Board and the Police Association. In accordance with sections 43(2) and 44(2) of the Police (Northern Ireland) Act 2000 he has consulted the Northern Ireland Policing Board, the Chief Constable, the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland and the Police Association.
Citation, commencement and interpretation

- (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Police (Recruitment) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2006 and shall come into operation on 31st March 2006.
- (2) In these Regulations “the Recruitment Regulations” means the Police (Recruitment) (Northern Ireland) Regulations 2001[^f00003].
Police reserve trainees

- (1) In the Recruitment Regulations, regulation 4(2) (police reserve trainees) shall be omitted.

Lay assessors

In the Recruitment Regulations, for regulation 9(2) (lay assessors) substitute—
(2) The lay assessors shall assist the agent in carrying out the functions prescribed by regulations 3(1) and 8.

Explanatory note
(This note is not part of the Regulations)
These Regulations amend the Police (Recruitment) (Northern Ireland) Regulations 2001 (S.R. 2001 No. 140) (“the Recruitment Regulations”) by correcting defective drafting. Regulation 4(2) of the Recruitment Regulations is omitted and inserted as a new regulation 3A(4). Regulation 9(2) of the Recruitment Regulations is substituted to clarify that the role of lay assessors is to assist the police recruitment agent in carrying out certain of his functions.
