The Justice (2015 Act) (Commencement No. 6) Order (Northern Ireland) 2016

The Department of Justice, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 106(2) of the Justice Act (Northern Ireland) 2015[^f00001], makes the following Order.

Citation

This Order may be cited as the Justice (2015 Act) (Commencement No. 6) Order (Northern Ireland) 2016.

Provisions coming into operation on 1st July 2016

The day appointed for the coming into operation of the following provisions of the Justice Act (Northern Ireland) 2015 is 1st July 2016—

• (a) section 77 (removal of maximum age for jury service);

• (b) section 78 (preparation of jury lists);

• (c) section 79 (persons disqualified for jury service);

• (d) section 80 (persons ineligible for jury service); and

• (e) section 81 (persons excusable as of right from jury service).

Explanatory note

(This note is not part of the Order)

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order brings sections 77 to 81 of the Justice Act (Northern Ireland) 2015 (c.9 (N.I.)) into operation on 1st July 2016.

Sections 77 to 81 make a number of amendments to the Juries (Northern Ireland) Order 1996, in particular by removing the upper age limit for jurors and by updating the lists of those who are disqualified for, ineligible for, or excusable as of right from jury service.
