The Crown Court (Amendment) Rules (Northern Ireland) 2019

Coming into operation in accordance with rule 1

The Crown Court Rules Committee makes the following Rules in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 52(1) and 53A of the Judicature (Northern Ireland) Act 1978[^f00001].

Citation and commencement

These Rules shall be cited as the Crown Court (Amendment) Rules (Northern Ireland) 2019 and shall come into operation on exit day.

Amendment to the Crown Court Rules (Northern Ireland) 1979

The Crown Court Rules (Northern Ireland) 1979[^f00002] are amended as follows—

• (1) In the Arrangement of Rules, omit the heading “Part V References to the European Court” and the entries for rules 39 to 42.

• (2) Omit Part V (Rules 39 to 42).

• (3) In the schedule, omit Form 4.

Explanatory note

(This note is not part of the Rules)

EXPLANATORY NOTE

These Rules amend the Crown Court Rules (Northern Ireland) 1979 (S.R. 1979 No. 90) to remove provisions on the procedure for preliminary references to the Court of Justice of the European Union, in consequence of the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the European Union.
