The Mental Health (Northern Ireland) (Amendment) Order 2020

Coming into operation: 30th March 2020
The Department of Health[^f00001], in exercise of the powers conferred by Article 64(2) of the Mental Health (Northern Ireland) Order 1986[^f00002], makes the following Order:
Citation and commencement

This Order may be cited as the Mental Health (Northern Ireland) (Amendment) Order 2020 and shall come into operation on 30th March 2020.
Amendment of Article 64(1)(b) of the Mental Health (Northern Ireland) Order 1986

In Article 64(1)(b), for “three months” substitute “six months”.

(This note is not part of the Order)
EXPLANATORY NOTE
This Order varies the length of the period which must elapse for a second opinion to be required for the continued administration of medicine to detained patients from three months to six months.
