The Police Trainee (Amendment) (Coronavirus) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2020

Coming into operation: 10th April 2020

The Department of Justice, in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 36 and 41 of the Police (Northern Ireland) Act 2000[^f00001], and of all other powers enabling it in that behalf, and after consulting the Northern Ireland Policing Board and the Police Association for Northern Ireland in accordance with section 41(6) of that Act[^f00002], herby makes the following Regulations:

Citation, commencement and interpretation

• (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Police Trainee (Amendment)(Coronavirus) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2020.

• (2) These Regulations shall come into operation on 10th April 2020.

• (3) In these Regulations “the 2001 Regulations” means the Police Trainee Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2001[^f00003].

Conditions for appointment as constable

In regulation 3(3)(a) of the 2001 Regulations for “or such longer period” substitute “or such longer or shorter period of service”.

In regulation 11(2A) of the 2001 Regulations for “regulation 3(4)” substitute “regulation 3(3)(a) or 3(4)”.

Explanatory note

EXPLANATORY NOTE

These Regulations amend the Police Trainee Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2001 to allow the Chief Constable to impose different requirements as to the period of service and training for police trainees in response to COVID-19.
