The Department for Communities[^f00001] makes the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred on it by section 47(2) of the Licensing and Registration of Clubs (Amendment) Act (Northern Ireland) 2021[^f00002].

The day appointed for the coming into operation of the provisions of the Licensing and Registration of Clubs (Amendment) Act (Northern Ireland) 2021 specified in the Schedule is 1st October 2021.

In Schedule 2 the following entries and section 46 so far as it relates to them – In the Licensing (Northern Ireland) Order 1996: In Article 2(2) – (b) in the definition of “intoxicating liquor”, sub-paragraph (a) and, in the full-out words beneath sub-paragraph (e), “(a),”. Repeals

Explanatory note

(This note is not part of the Order)

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order brings into operation certain provisions of the Licensing and Registration of Clubs (Amendment) Act (Northern Ireland) 2021. These provisions relate to Easter and Sunday opening hours, 2am opening in pubs and hotels, alignment of alcohol sales and entertainment hours, late nights for small pubs, drinking-up time, and sale of alcohol at race-tracks, in respect of licensed premises.

The Order also brings into operation provisions relating to Easter and Sunday opening hours, drinking-up time and late nights for special occasions in respect of registered clubs.

The Order also brings into operation provisions relating to minimum unit pricing of alcohol, reviews of the licensing system and the Licensing and Registration of Clubs (Amendment) Act (Northern Ireland) 2021 and publication of data.
