The Regulation and Improvement Authority (Fees and Frequency of Inspections) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2022

The Department of Health[^f00001] makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by Articles 40(7) and 48(2) of the Health and Personal Social Services (Quality, Improvement and Regulation) (Northern Ireland) Order 2003[^f00002]:

Citation, commencement and interpretation

• (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Regulation and Improvement Authority (Fees and Frequency of Inspections) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2022 and shall come into operation on 1st May 2022.

• (2) In these regulations “the principal regulations” means the Regulation and Improvement Authority (Fees and Frequency of Inspections) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2005[^f00003].

• (1) The principal regulations shall be amended in accordance with the following paragraph:

• (2) In regulation 6 (Frequency of Inspections)—

• (a) in paragraph (1)(a) omit the word “and”;

• (b) after paragraph (1)(a) insert “(aa) in the case of an independent hospital where the treatment provided includes dental treatment under general anaesthesia or sedation, a minimum of once in every 24 month period; and”;

• (c) in paragraph (6) after “following year” add “and “24 month period” means a period commencing on and including 1st April in any year and ending on 31st March 2 years later.”.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

These Regulations amend Regulation 6 of the Regulation and Improvement Authority (Fees and Frequency of Inspections) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2005 by setting a new statutory minimum period for inspections of Dental Practices.
