Coming into operation: 3rd October 2022

The Department of Justice, in exercise of the powers conferred by Article 22(1) of the County Courts (Northern Ireland) Order 1980[^f00001], after consultation with the Lady Chief Justice, makes the following Order.

Citation and Commencement

This Order may be cited as the County Courts (Financial Limits) Order (Northern Ireland) 2022 and shall come into operation on 3rd October 2022.

Increase of financial limits of civil jurisdiction of county courts

In paragraph (3) of Article 30 of the County Courts (Northern Ireland) Order 1980, for “£3,000” substitute “£5,000”.

Revocation

Article 2 of the County Courts (Financial Limits) Order (Northern Ireland) 2011 is revoked.

Explanatory note

(This note is not part of the Order)

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order increases the jurisdiction of district judges in the county courts in Northern Ireland in respect of arbitrations (small claims) from £3,000 to £5,000.
