The Offensive Weapons Act 2019 (Commencement No. 1) Order (Northern Ireland) 2022

Coming into operation: 6th October 2022

The Department of Justice, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 70(3) of the Offensive Weapons Act 2019[^f00001] makes the following Order.

Citation and interpretation

• (1) This Order may be cited as the Offensive Weapons Act 2019 (Commencement No. 1) Order (Northern Ireland) 2022.

• (2) In this Order “the 2019 Act” means the Offensive Weapons Act 2019”

Appointed Day

The day appointed for the coming into operation of section 6 of the 2019 Act is 6th October 2022.

Explanatory note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order brings into operation on 6th October 2022 section 6 of the Act, which is the offence of having a corrosive substance in a public place.

For the purposes of this Order corrosive substance means a substance which is capable of burning human skin by corrosion and public place includes any place to which, at the time in question, the public have or are permitted access, whether on payment or otherwise.
