The Department for the Economy[^f00001] makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by section 2(1), (2)(c) and (d), (7)(a), (b) and (c), and (9) of the Period Products (Free Provision) Act (Northern Ireland) 2022[^f00002] and after consultation in accordance with section 2(8) of that Act.

Citation and commencement

These Regulations may be cited as the Period Products (the Department for the Economy Specified Public Service Bodies) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2024 and shall come into operation on 29th April 2024.

For the purposes of section 2(3) of the Act—

Column 1 - Specified Public Service Body Column 2 - Descriptions of Premises Column 3- Descriptions of persons in premises
(a) (i) – (vi) Further Education Colleges All buildings, both those used for learning and those used for non-educational purposes, which form part of the premises of the body. (i) students; (ii) staff; and (iii) visitors
(b) (i)-(iv) Higher Education Institutions All buildings, both those used for learning and those used for non-educational purposes, which form part of the premises of the body. (i) students; (ii) staff; and (iii) visitors.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Statutory Rule is made under section 2(1) of the Period Products (Free Provision) Act (Northern Ireland) 2022. It specifies the public service bodies that are subject to the duty in section 2(3) of the Act (specified public service bodies). It specifies which premises are to be treated as premises of a specified public service body for the purposes of the Act, describes when these premises are considered to be in use for the purposes of the Act and provides for descriptions of persons to be treated as in those specified public service bodies’ premises for the purposes of the Act.
