Coming into operation

The Department of Finance[^f00001], with the concurrence of the Lady Chief Justice, makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 21 and 40 of the Legal Complaints and Regulation Act (Northern Ireland) 2016[^f00002]:

Citation and commencement

These regulations may be cited as the Legal Complaints and Regulation Act (Northern Ireland) 2016 (Appeals) Regulations 2025 and shall come into operation on 1st September 2025.

Interpretation

In these regulations “the 2016 Act” means the Legal Complaints and Regulation Act (Northern Ireland) 2016.

Appeals

An appeal, against a determination of the Bar Complaints Committee, may be made to the High Court where the determination contains a direction in accordance with section 19 of the 2016 Act.

An appeal, against a determination the Solicitors Complaints Committee, may be made to the High Court where the determination contains a direction in accordance with section 38 of the 2016 Act.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

These regulations specify the circumstances in which appeals may be made to the High Court against determinations made by the Complaints Committee of either the Law Society or the Honourable Society of the Inn of Court of Northern Ireland.
