The Department for Communities makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 134(1)(a) and (4), 171(1) and (3) to (5) of the Social Security Contributions and Benefits (Northern Ireland) Act 1992[^f00001] and sections 1(1) and (1C), 5(1)(a), (j), and (k) and 165(1), (4) and (5) of the Social Security Administration (Northern Ireland) Act 1992[^f00002] and now vested in it[^f00003].

Citation and commencement

These Regulations may be cited as the Social Fund (Child Funeral Fund) (No. 2) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2025 and shall come into operation on 1st December 2025.

  • Child Funeral Fund payment means— for funerals taking place on or before 30th November 2025 a one-off lump sum payment of £3,056.00, or for funerals taking place on or after 1st December 2025 a one-off lump sum payment of £3,441.00;

Explanatory note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

EXPLANATORY NOTE

These Regulations amend the amount paid under the Child Funeral Fund as part of the social fund.

Regulation 1 provides that the Regulations shall come into operation on 1st December 2025.

Regulation 2 amends the Social Fund (Child Funeral Fund) (No.2) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2022 to allow for funerals that take place on or after 1st December 2025 to be eligible for the increased Child Funeral Fund payment amount of £3,441.00. Funerals that take place on or before 30th November 2025 will remain eligible for the Child Funeral Fund payment amount of £3,056.00.

A regulatory impact assessment has not been produced for these Regulations as they have no impact on the costs of business.
