The Deaths, Still-Births and Baby Loss (2026 Act) (Commencement) Order (Northern Ireland) 2026

Made: 26th February 2026

The Department of Finance, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 12(1) of the Deaths, Still-Births and Baby Loss (Northern Ireland) Act 2026[^f00001], makes the following Order:

Citation

This Order may be cited as the Deaths, Still-Births and Baby Loss (2026 Act) (Commencement) Order (Northern Ireland) 2026.

Appointed Day

The appointed day for the coming into operation of the following sections of the Deaths, Still-Births and Baby Loss (Northern Ireland) Act 2026 is 23rd March 2026 –

• (a) section 2 (Power to approve electronic means);

• (b) section 3 (Giving certificate of still-birth directly);

• (c) section 4 (Giving certificate of cause of death directly);

• (d) section 5 (Giving certificate of registration, or written notice of death, directly);

• (e) section 6 (Registration of particulars of still-birth);

• (f) section 7 (Manner in which particulars of death are required to be given); and

• (g) section 10 (Repeal of temporary provisions).

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order brings into operation on 23rd March 2026 the following provisions of the Deaths, Still-Births and Baby Loss (Northern Ireland) Act 2026 –

• (a) section 2 (Power to approve electronic means);

• (b) section 3 (Giving certificate of still-birth directly);

• (c) section 4 (Giving certificate of cause of death directly);

• (d) section 5 (Giving certificate of registration, or written notice of death, directly);

• (e) section 6 (Registration of particulars of still-birth);
