The Visiting Forces (Designation) (Colonies) (Amendment No. 2) Order 1967

Her Majesty, in exercise of the powers conferred on Her by section 15(1) of the Visiting Forces Act 1952 is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:—

Citation, construction and publication

• (1) This Order may be cited as the Visiting Forces (Designation) (Colonies) (Amendment No. 2) Order 1967.

• (2) This Order shall be construed as one with the Visiting Forces (Designation) (Colonies) Orders 1954 to 1967 [^f00001] and shall be included among the Orders which may be cited as the Visiting Forces (Designation) (Colonies) Orders 1954 to 1967.

• (3) This Order shall be published—

• (a) in the Bahama Islands, by the Governor, acting in his discretion, in the Official Gazette;

• (b) in the Colony of Seychelles, by the Governor in the Government Gazette; and

• (c) in the British Indian Ocean Territory, by the Commissioner in such manner as he may direct.

The Visiting Forces (Designation) (Colonies) Order 1954[^f00002], as amended by the Visiting Forces (Designation) (Colonies) (Amendment) Order 1954[^f00003], by the Visiting Forces (Designation) (Colonies) (Amendment) Order 1956[^f00004], by the Visiting Forces (Designation) (Colonies) (Amendment) Order 1958[^f00005], by the Visiting Forces (Designation) (Colonies) (Amendment) Order 1959 [^f00006], by the Visiting Forces (Designation) (Sovereign Base Areas of Akrotiri and Dhekelia) Order 1962[^f00007], and by the Visiting Forces (Designation) (Colonies) (Amendment) Order 1967[^f00008], is further amended by the addition in the appropriate alphabetical order of the words “Bahama Islands”, “Colony of Seychelles” and “The British Indian Ocean Territory” to the list of territories mentioned in the Schedule.

Explanatory note

EXPLANATORY NOTE

Section 1(1) of the Visiting Forces Act 1952 provides that references in the Act to a country to which a provision of the Act applies are references to Commonwealth countries and to any country designated for the purposes of that provision by Order in Council. The Visiting Forces (Designation) Order 1954 designates certain countries including the United States of America and the provisions of that Order are, subject to certain modifications, extended by the Visiting Forces (Designation) (Colonies) Order 1954 to certain colonial territories in so far as those provisions relate to the United States of America. This Order extends the provisions of the last mentioned Order, as amended, to the Bahama Islands, the Colony of Seychelles and the British Indian Ocean Territory.
