The Minister of Transport makes this Order in exercise of his powers under section 74 of the Transport Act 1962, as read with section 136 of the Transport Act 1968, and of all other enabling powers:—

Explanatory note

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order enables the rules of the pension fund established under the Southern Railway (Superannuation Fund) Act 1927 (as amended by the Southern Railway (Superannuation Fund) Act 1941) to be altered from time to time so as to permit payment from the fund, with the agreement of the member and the British Railways Board, of annuities payable during the joint lives of the member and his wife or other dependant relative and during the life of the survivor of them, in lieu of any annuity or other benefit to which the member would otherwise be entitled under the rules.
