Made: 22nd May 1972

The Secretaries of State respectively concerned with health in England and Wales, the Secretary of State concerned with health and with agriculture in Scotland, the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, and the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food acting jointly, in exercise of their powers under section 136(3) of the Medicines Act 1968, (as having effect subject to the provisions of Article 2(2), of and Schedule 1 to, the Transfer of Functions (Wales) Order 1969[^f00001] and section 1(1)(a) of the Northern Ireland (Temporary Provisions) Act 1972) and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, after consulting such organisations as appear to them to be representative of interests likely to be substantially affected by the following order, hereby make the following order:—

The day appointed for the coming into operation of section 65 of the Medicines Act 1968 (compliance with standards specified in monographs in certain publications) shall be 1st June 1972.

This Order may be cited as the Medicines Act 1968 (Commencement No. 1) Order 1972.

Explanatory note

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order brings into operation on 1st June 1972 the provisions of section 65 of the Medicines Act 1968 which provides for the compliance with standards specified in monographs in the publications specified in that section. Subsection (7) enables the European Pharmacopoeia to have effect for the purposes of section 65 on and after a date declared in a notice in the London, Edinburgh and Belfast Gazette.
