The Police (Revocation of Amalgamation Schemes etc.) Order 1974

In exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 254 of the Local Government Act 1972, I hereby make the following Order:—

This Order may be cited as the Police (Revocation of Amalgamation Schemes etc.) Order 1974 and shall come into operation on 1st April 1974.

• (1) The Police (Amalgamation) Orders specified in the Schedule to this Order and the Police Amalgamation Schemes approved or made by those Orders and set out therein, are hereby revoked.

• (2) The Police (Amalgamation) (Amendment of Specified Schemes) Order 1971 is hereby revoked.

The Police (Adaptation of Enactments) (Gloucester) Order 1965 is hereby revoked.

Explanatory note

EXPLANATORY NOTE

Article 2 of this Order, with effect from 1st April 1974, revokes, with one exception, all existing Police Amalgamation Schemes (not otherwise revoked) and the amendments thereto, that is to say, Schemes relating to existing administrative counties and county boroughs. The exception is the Thames Valley Police Amalgamation Scheme 1968 (S.I. 1968/496), which continues to have effect on and after 1st April 1974 as provided in the Thames Valley Police Amalgamation Scheme (Modification) Order 1974 (S.I. 1974/339).

Article 3 , with effect from the same date, revokes the Police (Adaptation of Enactments) (Gloucester) Order 1965, which amended section 13 of the Gloucester Corporation Act 1945 (9 & 10 Geo. 6 c. ix). (That section ceases to have effect, by virtue of subsection (2) thereof, on the agreement of 19th May 1939 for the consolidation of the Gloucester and Gloucestershire police forces lapsing in consequence of the repeal of paragraph 7 of Schedule 11 to the Police Act 1964 (c. 48) by the Local Government Act 1972).
