Coming into Operation: 1st April 1974

The Registrar General, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 74 of the Marriage Act 1949 and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, with the approval of the Secretary of State for Social Services, hereby makes the following regulations:—

Citation and commencement

(1) These regulations may be cited as the Marriage (Authorised Persons) (Amendment) Regulations 1974 and shall come into operation on 1st April 1974.

(2) These regulations, the marriage (Authorised Persons) Regulations 1952[^f00001], as amended[^f00002], and the Marriage (Authorised Persons) (Amendment) Regulations 1971[^f00003] shall be construed as one and may be cited together as the Marriage (Authorised Persons) Regulations 1952 to 1974.

Interpretation

The Interpretation Act 1889 shall apply to the interpretation of these regulations as it applies to the interpretation of an Act of Parliament.

Amendment of the Marriage (Authorised Persons Regulations 1952 (as amended)

In regulations 10 and 3(1) of the Marriage (Authorised Persons) Regulations 1952 (as amended), for the words “administrative county, borough” there shall be substituted the words “non-metropolitan county, metropolitan district.”

Explanatory note

EXPLANATORY NOTE

These Regulations amend the Marriage (Authorised Persons) Regulations 1952 by substituting the words non-metropolitan county and metropolitan district for the words administrative county and county borough respectively.
