The Commissioners of Customs and Excise, in exercise of the powers conferred upon them by section 3 of the Finance Act 1971 and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, hereby make the following Regulations:—

(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Gas (Road Fuel) (Amendment) Regulations 1977 and shall come into operation on 1st January 1978.

(2) The Interpretation Act 1889 shall apply for the interpretation of these Regulations as it applies for the interpretation of an Act of Parliament.

The definition of “gas” in Regulation 2 of the Gas (Road Fuel) Regulations 1972[^f00001] shall be amended by substituting for the words “at a temperature of 60° Fahrenheit and under a pressure of one atmosphere” the words “at a temperature of 15°C and under a pressure of 1013.25 millibars”.

Explanatory note

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Regulation, which comes into operation on 1st January 1978, amends the definition of gas by substituting “15°C” for “60° Fahrenheit” and “1013.25 millibars” for “one atmosphere” as the temperature and pressure at which it shall be determined whether any substance is a gas.

It is consequential on the Amendment of Units of Measurement (Hydrocarbon Oil, etc.) Order 1977 (S.I. 1977/1866) which makes like amendments to the principal legislation.
