Made: 11th March 1977

The Secretary of State for the Environment (as respects England), the Secretary of State for Wales (as respects Wales) and the Secretary of State for Scotland (as respects Scotland), in exercise of their powers under section 109(2) of the Control of Pollution Act 1974 and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, hereby make the following order:—

This order may be cited as the Control of Pollution Act 1974 (Commencement No. 9) Order 1977.

The Interpretation Act 1889 shall apply for the interpretation of this order as it applies for the interpretation of an Act of Parliament.

The provisions of the Control of Pollution Act 1974 which are specified in column 1 of the Schedule to this order (as respects England, Wales and Scotland as specified in Part I, and as respects England and Wales only as specified in Part II of the said Schedule) and which relate to the subject matter specified in column 2 thereof shall come into force on 1st April 1977.

Explanatory note

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order brings into operation throughout Great Britain on 1st April 1977 the provision in the Control of Pollution Act 1974 that relates to the making of litter abatement grants. It also effects, as regards England and Wales only, a repeal consequent upon the bringing into force of section 22 of the 1974 Act.
