The Local Government, Planning and Land Act 1980 (Commencement No. 7) Order 1981

The Secretary of State for the Environment, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 94(2) and (4) of the Local Government, Planning and Land Act 1980 and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following order:—

This order may be cited as the Local Government, Planning and Land Act 1980 (Commencement No. 7) Order 1981 and shall come into operation on 11th December 1981.

Part X of the Local Government, Planning and Land Act 1980 shall come into operation on 11th December 1981 in the areas of all councils of districts in England and London boroughs in which the said Part X is not already in operation, and in the City of London.

Explanatory note
EXPLANATORY NOTE
This order brings Part X of the Local Government, Planning and Land Act 1980 into operation in those areas of England in which it is not already in operation. The areas in which it is already in operation are specified in the Local Government, Planning and Land Act 1980 (Commencement No. 1) Order 1980 (S.I. 1980/1871), the Local Government, Planning and Land Act 1980 (Commencement No. 4) Order 1981 (S.I. 1981/194) and the Local Government, Planning and Land Act 1980 (Commencement No. 6) Order 1981 (S.I. 1981/1251). Part X of the Act provides for registers to be kept of land owned by public bodies, being land which is not being used or not being sufficiently used for the purposes of the performance of a public body's functions or of carrying on their undertaking. Part X also provides that the Secretary of State may direct a public body which own land on a register to take steps to dispose of it.
