The Police Cadets (Amendment) Regulations 1982

In exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 35 of the Police Act 1964, and after furnishing the Police Advisory Board for England and Wales and the Police Negotiating Board for the United Kingdom with a draft of the Regulations in accordance with section 46(3) of the said Act of 1964 and section 2(1) of the Police Negotiating Board Act 1980 respectively, I hereby make the following Regulations:—

These Regulations may be cited as the Police Cadets (Amendment) Regulations 1982.

These Regulations shall come into operation on 12th April 1982 and shall have effect for the purposes of Regulation 3(d) as from 1st September 1981.

The Police Cadets Regulations 1979[^f00001] shall be amended as follows:—
- (a) after Regulation 4 there shall be inserted the following Regulation:—
(4A) A candidate for appointment as a police cadet shall be given a notice describing the conditions of service relating to the appointment.
- (b) in paragraph (5) of Regulation 5 (termination of service), the words “for misconduct” shall be omitted;
- (c) Regulation 12 (medical examination) shall be omitted;
- (d) for the Table in Schedule 2 (scales of pay) there shall be substituted the following Table:—

- (e) for paragraph 2 of Schedule 3 (charge for board and lodging) there shall be substituted the following paragraph:—
(2) The annual rate of charge shall be— (a) in the case of a police cadet attached to the City of London or Metropolitan Police force, £342; (b) in any other case, £321.

Explanatory note
EXPLANATORY NOTE
These Regulations amend the Police Cadets Regulations 1979. Regulation 3(d) increases the pay of police cadets from 1st September 1981 (retrospective effect is authorised by section 33(4), as applied by section 35(2), of the Police Act 1964). The remaining provisions of Regulation 3 take effect from 12th April 1982. Paragraph (a) entitles a police cadet to a notice of conditions of service; paragraph (b) extends the right of a cadet to a personal interview at which he may make representations to all cases where his chief officer of police is considering terminating his service; paragraph (c) removes the requirement that a cadet shall be medically examined at 6-monthly intervals; and paragraph (e) increases the charges payable by cadets for board and lodging provided by police authorities.
