The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the Secretaries of State for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, acting jointly in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 5 and 35(3) of the Agriculture Act 1957[^f00001], and now vested in them and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, hereby make the following order:—

Explanatory note

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order amends the Sheep Variable Premium (Protection of Payments) (No. 2) Order 1980 by extending the power of the Intervention Board for Agricultural Produce to require the marking of animals brought into the United Kingdom to include animals brought into one part of the United Kingdom from another.

The amendment will enable the Board to provide for the marking of animals brought into Great Britain from Northern Ireland, required by Article 2(2) of Commission Regulation (EEC) No. 2661/80, (which lays down detailed rules for applying the variable slaughter premium for sheep) as amended by Article 1(2) of Commission Regulation (EEC) No. 1238/82.
