Made: 8th July 1982

In exercise of the powers conferred upon me by section 53(2) of the British Nationality Act 1981, I hereby make the following Order:—

This Order may be cited as the British Nationality Act 1981 (Commencement) Order 1982.

The British Nationality Act 1981, except sections 49 and 53 which came into force on the passing of the Act, shall come into force on 1st January 1983.

Explanatory note

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order brings the British Nationality Act 1981, except sections 49 and 53, into force on 1st January 1983. Section 49 (registration and naturalisation under British Nationality Acts 1948 to 1965) and section 53 (citation, commencement and extent) came into force on the passing of the Act by virtue of subsection (3) of section 53).
