The Water Act 1983 (Commencement No. 2) Order 1983
Made: 9th August 1983
The Secretary of State for the Environment, as respects England, the Secretary of State for Wales, as respects Wales, the Secretary of State for Scotland, as respects Scotland, and the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, as respects Northern Ireland, in exercise of their powers under section 11(5) and (6) of the Water Act 1983 and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, hereby order as follows:—

This order may be cited as the Water Act 1983 (Commencement No. 2) Order 1983.

The provisions of the Water Act 1983 which are specified in column 1 of the Schedule to this order (as respects England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland as specified in Part I, as respects England, Wales and Scotland only as specified in Part II and as respects England and Wales only as specified in Part III of the said Schedule respectively) and which relate to the subject matter specified in column 2 thereof shall come into force on 1st October 1983.

- (1) Any person (other than the chairman of a water authority) who, but for the coming into force of section 1 of the Water Act 1983 in accordance with the provisions of paragraph 2 above, would have been holding office as a member of any such authority on 1st October 1983, shall vacate office immediately before that day; but this provision shall not be taken as preventing the reappointment of any such person under the provisions of section 3 of the Water Act 1973, as substituted by the said section 1.
- (2) This article extends to England and Wales only.

Explanatory note
EXPLANATORY NOTE
This order brings certain provisions of the Water Act 1983 into force on 1st October 1983. Some apply to the United Kingdom as a whole and others to part only thereof, the Schedule showing these divided up accordingly. The Order also provides, so far as England and Wales are concerned, for the vacation of office by existing members (other than the chairmen) of water authorities before 1st October 1983.
