Coming into Operation

In exercise of the powers conferred upon me by section 35 of the Police Act 1964, and after taking into consideration the recommendations made by the Police Negotiating Board for the United Kingdom and furnishing the said Board with a draft of the Regulations in accordance with section 2(1) of the Police Negotiating Board Act 1980, I hereby make the following Regulations:—

These Regulations may be cited as the Police Cadets (Amendment) Regulations 1984.

These Regulations, apart from Regulation 4, shall come into operation on 19th November 1984, and shall have effect for the purposes of Regulation 5 as from 1st September 1984; and Regulation 4 shall come into operation on 1st January 1985.

In these Regulations any reference to the principal Regulations is a reference to the Police Cadets Regulations 1979[^f00001]

For paragraphs (1) and (2) of Regulation 18 of the principal Regulations (uniform and equipment) there shall be substituted the following provision:—

(1) Subject to the following provisions of this Regulation, the police authority shall supply a police cadet with 2 pairs of boots or shoes annually for the purposes of normal duty and with such other items of uniform and equipment as are requisite in his case, and shall provide for the dry cleaning of uniform and the repair of footwear.

For the Table in Schedule 2 to the principal Regulations there shall be substituted the following Table:—

Under 17 years £3,126 a year £2,646 a year
17 years £3,285 a year £2,805 a year
18 years or over £3,603 a year £3,123 a year

For paragraph 2 of Schedule 3 to the principal Regulations (charge for board and lodging) there shall be substituted the following paragraph:—

(2) The annual rate of charge shall be— (a) in the case of a police cadet attached to the City of London or Metropolitan Police force, £396; (b) in any other case, £369.

Explanatory note

EXPLANATORY NOTE

These Regulations amend the Police Cadets Regulations 1979 with effect, as provided by Regulation 2, from the dates mentioned below.

Regulation 4 amends Regulation 18 of the 1979 Regulations, with effect from 1st January 1985, to provide for the issue of footwear to all cadets and for the withdrawal of the footwear allowance.

Regulation 5 increases the pay of cadets from 1st September 1984 (retrospective effect is authorised by section 33(4), as applied by section 35(2), of the Police Act 1964). Regulation 6 increases from 19th November 1984 charges payable by cadets for board and lodging provided by police authorities.
