Made: 18th June 1984
The Secretary of State for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 24(4) of the Road Traffic Act 1974, and now vested in him[^f00001], hereby makes the following Order:—

This Order may be cited as the Road Traffic Act 1974 (Commencement No. 8) order 1984.

Section 9(3) to (6) of the Road Traffic Act 1974 shall come into operation on 1st August 1984.

The repeals made by section 24(3) of, and Schedule 7 to, the Road Traffic Act 1974 in so far as they relate to sections 68 to 80, 81(1) and 82 of the Road Traffic Act 1972 shall come into operation on 1st August 1984.

Explanatory note
EXPLANATORY NOTE
1 This Order brings into operation on 1st August 1984 section 9(3) to (6) of the Road Traffic Act 1974, and the repeals in that Act of provisions in the Road Traffic Act 1972 relating to the lighting of vehicles.
2 As a result of this Order provisions about the lighting of vehicles, other than cycles not being motor vehicles, will be made under section 40 of the Road Traffic Act 1972 pursuant to enabling powers to that effect provided by section 9 of the Road Traffic Act 1974.
