The Secretary of State, in exercise of the power conferred upon him by section 68(5) of the Gas Act 1986, hereby makes the following Order:—

This Order may be cited as the Gas Act 1986 (Commencement No. 1) Order 1986.

- (1) Sections 1, 65 and 68 of and Schedule 1 to, the Gas Act 1986 shall come into force on 18th August 1986.
- (2) Sections 2, 63 and 64 of, and Schedule 2 to, that Act shall come into force on 23rd August 1986.

Explanatory note
EXPLANATORY NOTE
This Order brings into operation the following provisions of the Gas Act 1986, namely—
on 18th August 1986, section 1 and Schedule 1 (the Director General of Gas Supply) and sections 65 (financial provisions) and 68 (short title, commencement and extent); and
on 23rd August 1986, section 2 and Schedule 2 (the Gas Consumers' Council) and sections 63 (restrictions on use of certain information) and 64provisions as to orders).
