The Gas Act 1986 (Transfer Date) Order 1986
Made: 28th July 1986
The Secretary of State, in exercise of the power conferred upon him by section 49(1) of the Gas Act 1986, hereby makes the following Order:—

This Order may be cited as the Gas Act 1986 (Transfer Date) Order 1986.

The day appointed for the purposes of section 49 of the Gas Act 1986 shall be 24th August 1986.

Explanatory note
EXPLANATORY NOTE
By the Gas Act 1986 (Nominated Company) Order 1986 (S.I. 1986/1317) the Secretary of State nominated British Gas public limited company as successor company to the British Gas Corporation.
This Order appoints 24th August 1986 as the day (referred to in the Gas Act 1986 as “the transfer date”) upon which the property, rights and liabilities of the British Gas Corporation become (subject to section 50 (British Gas Stock) of the Act) the property, rights and liabilities of British Gas public limited company.
By virtue of section 68(3) of the Gas Act 1986 which will be brought into operation on 18th August 1986 by the Gas Act 1986 (Commencement No. 1) Order 1986 (S.I. 1986/1315), the following provisions of that Act will come into force on the transfer date, namely—
Part II (transfer of undertaking of corporation);
Part II of Schedule 8 and section 67(3) so far as relating to that Part (transitional provisions and savings); and
Part II of Schedule 9 and section 67(4) so far as relating to that Part (repeals).
