Present,

The Queen's Most Excellent Majesty in Council

Her Majesty, in exercise of the powers conferred on Her by paragraph 13 of Part II of Schedule 4 to the Merchant Shipping Act 1979 or otherwise in Her Majesty vested, is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:—

This Order may be cited as the Limitation of Liability for Maritime Claims (Parties to Convention) Order 1986 and shall come into operation on 6th January 1987.

In this Order, “the Convention” means the Convention on Limitation of Liability for Maritime Claims 1976 as set out in Part I of Schedule 4 to the Merchant Shipping Act 1979.

It is hereby declared that the States specified in the first column of the Schedule to this Order are parties to the Convention, and that each of those States is a party to the Convention in respect of the territories specified opposite thereto in the second column of the Schedule and with effect from the date of entry into force of the Convention for that State as specified in the third column of the Schedule.

Explanatory note

EXPLANATORY NOTE

Section 17 of and Schedule 4 to the Merchant Shipping Act 1979 give effect in the United Kingdom to the Convention on Limitation of Liability for Maritime Claims 1976, which is set out in Part I of Schedule 4. This Order declares the States which are parties to the Convention, the territories in respect of which they are parties and the dates of the entry into force of the Convention for those States.
