This Order specifies three additional bodies for the purposes of section 444 of the Housing Act 1985 (“the 1985 Act”). The bodies specified become registered bodies for the purposes of sections 442 and 443 of the 1985 Act, in addition to those specified in the Mortgage Indemnities (Recognised Bodies) Order 1984 (S.I. 1984/1555) and the Mortgage Indemnities (Recognised Bodies) Order 1985 (S.I. 1985/1978) which are retained in force by section 2 of the Housing (Consequential Provisions) Act 1985 (c. 71). Local authorities may, with the approval of the Secretary of State, enter into agreements with recognised bodies providing for indemnities, where such bodies make advances secured by way of mortgage, on dwelling-houses bought from the public sector landlords listed in section 444(4) of the 1985 Act.
