The M3 Motorway (Compton—Bassett Section) Scheme 1987
Made: 23rd July 1987
Coming into force: 21st August 1987
The Secretary of State for Transport makes this Scheme in exercise of powers conferred by sections 16, 17 and 19 of the Highways Act 1980[^f00001], and now vested in him,[^f00002], and of all other enabling powers:

The Secretary of State is authorised to provide along the route described in the Schedule to this Scheme a special road for the use of traffic of Classes I and II of the classes of traffic set out in Schedule 4 to the Highways Act 1980.

The centre line of the special road is indicated by a heavy black line on the deposited plan.

The special road, except insofar as its route follows the route of any existing trunk road, shall become a trunk road on the date when this Scheme comes into force.

In this Scheme—
- (1) all measurements of distance are measured along the route of the relevant highway;
| 2 i “the deposited plan” | means the plan numbered RSE M3/5A/65/1/3 marked “The M3 Motorway (Compton—Bassett Section) Scheme 1987”, signed by authority of the Secretary of State and deposited at the Department of Transport, Romney House, 43 Marsham Street, London, SW1P 3PY; and |

| ii “the special road” | means the special road mentioned in article 1 of this Scheme. |

This Scheme shall come into force on 21st August 1987 and may be cited as the M3 Motorway (Compton—Bassett Section) Scheme 1987.
SCHEDULE — THE ROUTE OF THE SPECIAL ROAD
A route, about 8.5 kilometres in length, starting at a point on the route of the A33 Otterbourne and Chandler’s Ford Bypass immediately south of its junction with the A31 at Compton. Proceeding in a generally southwesterly direction, the route follows the line of the existing route of the said A33 to end at a point 1179 metres northeast of the Bassett roundabout at Bassett, Southampton, all in the County of Hampshire.
