At the Court of Saint James, the 21st day of October 1987 Present, The Counsellors of State in Council
Now, therefore, His Royal Highness The Prince Andrew Duke of York and Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, being authorised thereto by the said letters Patent, and in pursuance of section 1(4) of the Ministerial and other Salaries Act 1975[^f00001], and by and with the advice of Her Majesty’s Privy Council, do on Her Majesty’s behalf order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:
Citation, commencement and revocation

- (1) This Order may be cited as the Ministerial and other Salaries Order 1987.
- (2) This Order shall come into force on 1st January 1988.
- (3) The Ministerial and other Salaries Order 1983[^f00002] is hereby revoked.
Increase of Ministerial salaries

For the annual amount, or the maximum or minimum annual amount, of salary specified in Parts I, II, III and IV of Schedule 1 to the Ministerial and other Salaries Act 1975 (“the 1975 Act”) in relation to each of the offices specified in the first column of Schedule 1 to this Order there shall be substituted the amount, or the maximum or minimum amount, of salary specified in relation to that office in the second column of that Schedule.
Increase of salaries of Opposition Leaders and Whips

For the annual amount of salary specified in Part I of Schedule 2 to the 1975 Act in relation to each of the positions specified in the first column of Schedule 2 to this Order there shall be substituted the amount specified in relation to that position in the second column of that Schedule.
Increase of the Speaker’s salary

For the annual amount specified in section 1(3) of the 1975 Act as the salary of the Speaker of the House of Commons there shall be substituted £35,887.

Explanatory note
(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order increases salaries payable under the Ministerial and other Salaries Act 1975 to Ministers, to salaried Members of the Opposition and to the Speaker of the House of Commons. The amounts specified in Schedule 1 to this Order are the maximum salaries payable. The actual salaries in payment may therefore be below these levels.
