At the Court of Buckingham Palace, the 18th day of March 1987 Present, The Queen’s Most Excellent Majesty in Council

Now, therefore, Her Majesty, in exercise of the powers conferred upon Her by section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972[^f00003] is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:—

Title and commencement

This Order may be cited as the Veterinary Surgeons Qualifications (EEC Recognition) (Spanish and Portuguese Qualifications) Order 1987 and shall come into force on 16th April 1987.

Recognition of Spanish and Portuguese qualification in veterinary medicine

In Schedule 1A to the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966[^f00004] (recognised European qualifications in veterinary surgery) after the entry relating to The Netherlands there shall be added the following—

Carta de curso de licenciatura em medicina veterinaria (diploma conferring official recognition of completion of studies in veterinary medicine) awarded by a University. Titulo de Licenciado en Veterinaria (University degree in veterinary medicine) awarded by the Ministry for Education and Science

Explanatory note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order, which is made under the European Communities Act 1972, amends the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966 so as to take into account the amendments to the European Communities Council Directive relating to the right of establishment of veterinary surgeons and their freedom to provide services made necessary by the accession of Spain and Portugal to the European Communities.

The Order amends Schedule 1A to the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966 so as to include references to Spanish and Portuguese qualifications in veterinary medicine in the list of recognised European qualifications in veterinary surgery which give the right to registration in the register of veterinary surgeons (article 2).

The Order comes into force on 16th April 1987 (article 1).
