Made: 19th March 1987

Coming into force: 10th April 1987

The Secretary of State for Transport makes this Order in exercise of powers conferred by sections 10 and 12 of the Highways Act 1980[^f00001], and now vested in him[^f00002], and of all other enabling powers:

The lengths of the A453 trunk road and the A50 trunk road described in the Schedule to this Order and shown by broad striped hatching on the deposited plan shall cease to be trunk roads and shall be classified as indicated in the said Schedule as from the date on which the Secretary of State notifies the County Council of Leicestershire.

In this Order—

  • (1) all measurements of distance are measured along the route of the relevant highway;
2 i “classified road” as a classification for a highway, means that the highway is not a principal road for the purposes of enactments or instruments which refer to highways classified as principal roads but is a classified road for the purpose of every enactment and instrument which refers to highways classified by the Secretary of State and which does not specifically refer to their classification as principal roads;
ii “the deposited plan” means the plan numbered HA10/EM25 marked “The (A453) North East of Birmingham—Nottingham Trunk Road (Appleby Magna to Ashby-de-la-Zouch) Detrunking Order 1987” signed by authority of the Secretary of State and deposited at the Department of Transport, Romney House, Marsham Street, London SW1P 3PY;
iii “principal road” as a classification for a highway, means that the highway is a principal road for the purposes of enactments and instruments which refer to highways classified as principal roads and is also classified for the purpose of every other enactment and instrument which refers to highways classified by the Secretary of State;
iv “the A453 trunk road” means The North East of Birmingham—Nottingham Trunk Road (A453);
v “the A50 trunk road” means the North East of Birmingham—Nottingham Trunk Road (A50); and
vi “the M42 motorway” means the M42 Birmingham—Nottingham Motorway.

This Order shall come into force on 10th April 1987 and may be cited as the (A453) North East of Birmingham—Nottingham Trunk Road (Appleby Magna to Ashby-de-le-Zouch) Detrunking Order 1987.

THE SCHEDULE — LENGTHS OF TRUNK ROAD CEASING TO BE A TRUNK ROAD

That length of the A453 trunk road comprising the roundabout at its junction with the A444 where it forms part of a two level interchange with the M42 Motorway (lettered A on the deposited plan).

That length of the A453 trunk road from a point (lettered B on the deposited plan) where it joins the roundabout (lettered A on the deposited plan) for a distance of approximately 8.7 kilometres to its western junction with the A50 trunk road at Ashby-de-la-Zouch (lettered C on the deposited plan.)

That length of the A50 trunk road at Ashby-de-la-Zouch from its western junction with the A453 trunk road (lettered C on the deposited plan) for a distance of approximately 0.5 kilometres to its eastern junction with the A453 trunk road (lettered D on the deposited plan).

That length of the A453 trunk road at Ashby-de-la-Zouch from its eastern junction with the A50 trunk road (lettered D on the deposited plan) for a distance of approximately 1.1 kilometres to a point (lettered E on the deposited plan) 578 metres south-west of its junction with the A512 Ashby Road.
