At the Court at Buckingham Palace, the 18th day of May 1987 Present, The Queen’s Most Excellent Majesty in Council

Her Majesty, in exercise of the powers conferred on Her by paragraph 10 of Part II of Schedule 3 to the Merchant Shipping Act 1979[^f00001] or otherwise in Her Majesty vested, is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:

This Order may be cited as the Carriage of Passengers and their Luggage by Sea (Parties to Convention) Order 1987 and shall come into force on 17th June 1987.

In this Order, “the Convention” means the Convention relating to the Carriage of Passengers and their Luggage by Sea as set out in Part I of Schedule 3 to the Merchant Shipping Act 1979.

It is hereby declared that, in relation to a State specified in the first column of the Schedule to this Order, the State is a party to the Convention in respect of the country specified opposite thereto in the second column of the Schedule with effect from the date of entry into force of the Convention for that State as specified in the third column of the Schedule.

Explanatory note

(This note is not part of the Order)

Section 14 of and Schedule 3 to the Merchant Shipping Act 1979 give effect in the United Kingdom to the Convention relating to the Carriage of Passengers and their Luggage by Sea, which was opened for signature at Athens on 13th December 1974 and is set out in Part I of Schedule 3 to the Merchant Shipping Act 1979. This Order declares the States which are parties to the Convention and the countries in respect of which they are parties.
