The A3 Trunk Road (Wandsworth Common North Side, Wandsworth) (Box Junction) Order 1988

Coming into force: 25th January 1988

The Secretary of State for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 6 (1), (2) and (3), and 7 (1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984[^f00001], and of all other enabling powers, hereby makes the following Order:

This Order shall come into force on 25th January 1988 and may be cited as the A3 Trunk Road (Wandsworth Common North Side, Wandsworth) (Box Junction) Order 1988.

In this Order —

• “boxed area” means the area of the carriageway of the trunk road specified in the Schedule to this Order, being an area of the said carriageway which is marked by the traffic sign specified in diagram 1043 in the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 1981[^f00002];

• “the trunk road” means that part of the London — Portsmouth Trunk Road (A3) in the London Borough of Wandsworth known as Wandsworth Common North Side.

Save as provided in article 4 below, no person shall cause or permit any vehicle to enter the boxed area if it would become necessary for the whole or any part of the vehicle to remain stationary within that area due to the presence of other stationary vehicles.

The provisions of article 3 above shall not apply —

• (a) in respect of a vehicle being used for police, fire brigade, or ambulance purposes;

• (b) to anything done on the direction or with the permission of a police constable in uniform or of a traffic warden;

• (c) so as to render it unlawful to cause or permit the whole or any part of a vehicle to remain stationary within the boxed area while waiting to complete a right turn for so long as that vehicle is prevented from completing that turn by reason of the presence of other stationary vehicles, waiting in or near that area, to complete a right turn; or

• (d) so as to render it unlawful to cause or permit the whole or any part of a vehicle to remain stationary in the boxed area if when the whole or any part of the vehicle entered that area the person so causing or permitting has reason to believe that he would immediately be able to cause or permit the vehicle to be driven out of that area.

SCHEDULE

The area of the trunk road marked with the traffic sign referred to in article 2 above at the junction of the trunk road with Woodwell Street.
