The Lord Chancellor, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 5(2) of the Children and Young Persons (Amendment) Act 1986[^f00001], hereby makes the following Order:

This Order may be cited as the Children and Young Persons (Amendment) Act 1986 (Commencement No. 1) Order 1988.

Sections 2 and 3 of the Children and Young Persons (Amendment) Act 1986 shall come into force on 1st August 1988.

Explanatory note
(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order brings sections 2 and 3 of the Children and Young Persons (Amendment) Act 1986 into force on 1st August 1988. Section 2 provides for a parent or guardian to have an automatic right of appeal from care proceedings. Section 3 enables a parent or guardian to be made a party to care proceedings when there is a conflict of interest between the parent and child. Further, section 3 provides that grandparents may, by leave of the court and in accordance with criteria given in Rules, become parties to care proceedings.
