The Environmentally Sensitive Areas Designation (Wales) (Amendment) Order 1988
Made: 8th February 1988
Laid before Parliament: 9th February 1988
Coming into force: 1st March 1988
Now, therefore, the Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 18(1), (4) and (11) of the said Act and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, with the consent of the Treasury, hereby makes the following Order:—
Citation, commencement and interpretation

- (1) This Order may be cited as the Environmentally Sensitive Areas Designation (Wales) (Amendment) Order 1988 and shall come into force on 1st March 1988.
- (2) In this Order “the principal Orders” means the statutory instruments set out in the Schedule to this Order.
Amendment of principal Orders

The principal Orders shall each be amended in accordance with articles 3 and 4 below.

In article 2(1) (interpretation) there shall be inserted immediately after the definition of “broadleaved woodland” the following definition:—
- “cow” means a female bovine animal which has calved at least twice;

In article 2(1) (interpretation) there shall be substituted for the definition of “livestock unit” the following definition:—
- “livestock unit” means— 1 cow, or 1.25 bovine animals (other than cows) more than two years old, or 1.6 bovine animals (other than cows) from one year old to two years old inclusive, or 2.5 bovine animals less than one year old, or 6.66 sheep;

Explanatory note
(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order amends a series of Orders previously made by the Secretary of State for Wales, namely the Environmentally Sensitive Areas (Cambrian Mountains) Designation Order 1986, the Environmentally Sensitive Areas (Cambrian Mountains—Extension) Designation Order 1987 and the Environmentally Sensitive Areas (Lleyn Peninsula) Designation Order 1987, which designated areas in the Cambrian Mountains and the Lleyn Peninsula as environmentally sensitive areas. The Order inserts a definition of “cow” and for clarification substitutes a new definition of “livestock unit” (articles 3and 4).
