The London—Norwich Trunk Road (A11) (Leytonstone Road and High Road Leytonstone Detrunking) Order 1988

Made: 26th October 1988

Coming into force: 3rd November 1988

The Secretary of State for Transport makes this Order in exercise of powers conferred by sections 10 and 12 of the Highways Act 1980[^f00001], and now vested in him[^f00002], and of all other enabling powers:

The length of the trunk road described in Schedule 1 to this Order and shown by broad striped hatching on the deposited plan shall cease to be a trunk road and shall be classified as a classified road as from the date on which the Secretary of State notifies the London Borough of Waltham Forest that the new trunk roads are open for through traffic.

The length of the trunk road described in Schedule 2 to this Order and shown by broad striped hatching on the deposited plan shall cease to be a trunk road and shall be classified as a principal road as from the date on which the Secretary of State notifies the London Borough of Waltham Forest that the new trunk roads are open for through traffic.

In this Order:— (1) All measurements of distance are measured along the route of the relevant highway;

• (2)

• (i) “classified road” as a classification for a highway, means that the highway is not a principal road for the purpose of enactments or instruments which refer to highways classified as principal roads but is a classified road for the purpose of every enactment and instrument which refers to highways classified by the Secretary of State and which does not specifically refer to their classification as principal roads;

• (ii) “the deposited plan” means the plan numbered HA 10/2 EC 99, consisting of two sheets bound together, marked “The London—Norwich Trunk Road (A11) (Leytonstone Road and High Road Leytonstone Detrunking) Order 1988”, signed by authority of the Secretary of State and deposited at the Department of Transport, Romney House, 43 Marsham Street, London SW1P 3PY;

• (iii) “principal road” as a classification for a highway means that the highway is a principal road for the purposes of enactments and instruments which refer to highways classified as principal roads and is also classified for the purpose of every other enactment and instrument which refers to highways classified by the Secretary of State;

• (iv) “the new trunk roads” means the trunk roads to be constructed by the Secretary of State in pursuance of the London—Great Yarmouth Trunk Road (A12) (Eastway to Eastern Avenue and Slip Roads at Wanstead) Order 1986[^f00003]; and

• (v) “the trunk road” means the London—Norwich Trunk Road (A11).

This Order shall come into force on 3rd November 1988 and may be cited as the London—Norwich Trunk Road (A11) (Leytonstone Road and High Road Leytonstone Detrunking) Order 1988.

SCHEDULE 1 — LENGTH OF TRUNK ROAD CEASING TO BE A TRUNK ROAD AND BECOMING A CLASSIFIED ROAD

The length of the trunk road ceasing to be a trunk road and becoming a classifed road is that length of the trunk road which is situated between the boundary between the London Borough of Newham and the London Borough of Waltham Forest opposite 122 Leytonstone Road and the centre line of Gainsborough Road (a distance of about 2.25 kilometres).

SCHEDULE 2 — LENGTH OF TRUNK ROAD CEASING TO BE A TRUNK ROAD AND BECOMING A PRINCIPAL ROAD

The length of the trunk road ceasing to be a trunk road and becoming a principal road is that length of the trunk road which is situated between the centre line of Gainsborough Road and a point 118 metres north-east of the centre line of Browning Road (a distance of about 200 metres).
